If you'd have asked me before I came here why it was that I wanted to be in America, I would have had this exact image in my head. I can't believe I was lucky enough to spend my first ever labour day and one of my first days in the Country here in such a stunning place!
I'll backtrack to how we got here. So you may remember the guy who took us to the Frat party on Friday? Well we ended up round his apartment again on Sunday night since it was the night before labour day and they'd decided to have a house party. The next day he mentioned he may be going to the lake later on and this was right up my street! So he offered to pick me and Heather up and along with his roommate.
But first we dropped by the pool party at Trails..
I'd like to bring to your attention that I live here. This is my home! Okay, got that out the way.
Bobby agreed to let me and Heather sit in the back of his truck all the way to the lake and we were literally like excitable kids.
It may have taken a bit of getting used to in the back, but it was probably the most fun we've had since we've been here. Not only this, but we got a breeze in the back which is something we're not often subjected to in Mississippi, a bit of girl talk time (!) and I was able to see and appreciate the beautiful, untouched scenery around us as we were speeding down the highway.
Pretty amazing to see what's outside of our little Ole Miss campus! I say little, it's probably 10x the size of the Reading campus..
With this part of the excitement coming to an end, but not until we'd gone over some super bumpy ground, the lake was sight. And it was incredible.
After we'd parked up we both literally just sat staring at this, literally breathtaking.
We found a cute spot at the lake and jumped straight in. The water was surprisingly warm though it got pretty deep really quickly but I was comforted by the fact that Bobby is a lifeguard!
We stayed in the water sharing stories until the sun started to set and the boys decided to build a cute fire, which until yesterday I did not realise was something that impressed me immensely!
Me and Heather let them get on with this part and we snuck off to explore the surrounding woods. I can't believe this place is real, even describing it makes it sound fictional.
We weren't gone long but the fire was started and we sat round talking some more, taking in this unreal setting.
We then realised we were pretty hungry so jumped (literally) back into the truck and headed to ihop. Seriously, as if this day could have got even more exciting!
We said goodbye to the lake, a sad one at that, as we drove away into the sunset (movie scene or what!!) and I vowed I would return.
You will never understand how much you love life until you have ridden in the back of a truck! I wish I had my own truck so I could take you all for rides just so you can experience it.
Ihop was obviously incredible (Danae look!!!!!!! I thought of you) and literally the perfect end to the most perfect day.
A day of typical American activities in my eyes and that is the exact reason why I'm here. Spending time with the guys was hilarious, it doesn't feel like we only met them 4 days ago. Thank you to them for making our labour day one that won't be forgotten for a while yet.
Who knows what's next in store for us here.. I'll let you know!
Speak soon
Em x
