a week in the life

Ok, so since there's not been a huge amount of news/goss to report in the last week I thought I'd give you an insight into our typical week here at Ole Miss. We have been here a month already and omg that's gone fast, that means I'm a month closer to leaving here and I am definitely not even close to being ready for that.

During the week, I have classes every day, one in the morning quite early and one in the afternoon. Inbetween classes I either go to the library and do homework, come back to my apartment or play around campus haha

At some point during the week, me and Heather take our regular trip to Walmart to stock up which is a bore. But not when we get off the bus around 6 stops to early and have to walk about a mile down the freeway in the heat and have to attempt to cross the road.

During the evenings, we usually either do homework again as we get a lot over here, do nothing together or hang out with the group of guys we have befriended since being here.

On Monday, we got invited over to play in their hot tub. The Dream!

Haha excuse our dodgy eyes, photos in the dark never seem to work.
We also have crashed the boys' tradition of Drunk Wednesdays which is always a weekly highlight. I don't think I've ever taken any photos of this but you can imagine its just a bunch of people hanging out, nothing too but always manage to leave me incredibly hungover for my Thursday classes.

This Thursday was one of the worst and so I spent a lot of time sitting and enjoying the campus life and decided a Dominos with the girls was in order to make me feel better.

Needless to say I felt better the next day.
Friday night, we usually go out somewhere. The past few weeks have been to Fraternity parties which are a lot of fun, however it was Rush week this week which means basically fraternities and sororities were recruiting new members I think- I'm not to sure about the whole Greek society over here still despite having it explained to me several times. Instead this week, we were invited to a Fandom house party by one of Krystal's classmates and this required dressing up.

Americans really go all out with themed parties. There was quidditch pong, themed food and drinks, hundreds of balloons and a lot of people dressed as stormtroopers.

We followed this by heading to the square to a bar we'd not yet been to. Although it seemed like a lot of people were there, there was no one on the only dancefloor we have seen since being here and so me and Heather took the opportunity to dance the night away, still dressed as pirates.
We also managed to get ourselves stranded on the square having to call the guys to come pick us up. This is resulted in my smacking my head on their truck and being subdued to mild concussion. That hurt.

But I manned up and we went out again on Saturday. We invited my classmate Hilary to join us as well as Krystal's Brazilian and Korean roommates and we had a lot of fun "pregaming".

As it happens, we decided not to go to the square, we stopped by the pool party for a while and then headed to the guys apartment. Turns out they were having a movie night so we suggested they put mean girls on, which they obviously appreciated.

Although I'm super sad this week because everyone has moved back to uni without me and they are all reunited, I am still having the best time out here.
They're cuties though, I opened these this morning.

Love you all, hope you're having a great time back at uni or if you're just starting out. I am still jealous of you all and thinking of you!

Game Day!

Yesterday was our first home football game and this is a huge deal! We have nothing like it back home and so we were pretty excited all week.

However, me and Heather woke up on Saturday morning texting eachother from across the guys' apartment following a big night of fraternity parties and we weren't feeling our best lets say that...
We struggled through though, continued drinking and hitched a ride to the grove of some guys that saw us waiting at the bus stop.

At the grove tailgating happens and I'm not even sure how to describe this. Since Friday, campus has been getting ready for this and on Friday night people are finally allowed to set up tents all over the grove to use as a base for anybody and everybody before the game.

Everyone wore blue to support our team against the Louisiana Lafayettes. The tents are used as means of socialising and its a big deal if you have your own tent since its a lot of money. My friend Hilary actually had her own tent so we went over to see her and it was crazy that there were so many people everywhere and you don't know any of them, you just meet them through tailgating and hang out.

We also had our own tent set up for the internationals right next to the union so we hung out there for a bit too.

After experiencing the crazy crowds of tailgating (look how cute)

it was time to head to the game and I was apprehensive about the amount of people, but excited! With our friend Lux, me and Heather managed to get into the student seating area. I say seating, everyone was standing and shouting and cheering, it was incredible.

The band was playing, the cheerleaders were cheering and the crowds were going wild already, the atmosphere was incredible. Soon though, the game kicked off and it was amazing to watch. The players are so quick and gameplay didn't last for long at a time.

We found some pom poms which came in useful since our Rebels were always scoring and so the Hotty Toddy chant could be heard frequently. I hope you can get a feel for just how big the football games are here, the amount of people that find themselves wrapped up in it all is like nothing we have back home and it's amazing.

Such a surreal day and I'm so excited that we have another 7 home games while we're here, we'll be expert tailgaters and game-goers before we know it!

So yeah, America is still amazing. I want to stay so badly I'm already getting upset at the thought of ever having to leave this place and everyone we've met so far.

round up #2

Right I'm gonna try and keep this short and just share some pictures of what needs catching up on!

I now class us as frat party veterans, we go to frat houses every friday and it's a funny way of meeting some drunk freshman. They often have really good music on too and an after party somewhere too.

We had a day  in Memphis last Saturday and we went to the Civil Rights Musuem, the mall and an Oriental supermarket haha!

Not going to write anything else on this because it was a while ago now, but I had my first tailgating experience today for our first home football game so that will be the next post!
