most insane game day ever

Having beat Memphis last weekend and earning ourselves a spot on ESPN College Game Day, it was fair to say campus had been buzzing all week for the Ole Miss v Bama game.

The red and blue trash cans were put out even earlier in the week to signify that game day was on its way. The ESPN bus arrived on campus on Thursday night and from early Friday morning people were already reserving spots for tents in the Grove.

By early Saturday, the grove was packed! A crowd of 100,000 tailgaters, a performance by Katy Perry and guest appearances from the Hemsworth brothers, Zac Efron and Morgan Freeman made for a mental atmosphere that would last all day.

For a good few hours, we explored the grove, eating food and making friends with people in tents before getting stuck in the crowds. It wasn't long before we found ourselves at Hillary's tent where we took some time out before the game started.

The pre-game warm ups are always entertaining to watch and these are followed by the marching band and cheerleaders to get the crowd ready.

Once the game kicked off we were instantly off to a good start, pushing the ball towards our end of the field and we soon had already scored. But then by the end of the 3rd quarter we were 17-3 down.
However, after some incredible defence and a killer offensive play we made a great comeback scoring two touchdowns. This was followed by Bama scoring another touchdown leaving us at 23-17.
A nail biting moment came when it seemed like Bama had scored yet another touchdown after this, but our incredible defence had managed to intersect just in time so it didn't count, leaving us with a victory against the number one team in the league. Here's what happened...

Because of this incredible win, the field was stormed by excited students and fans and mayhem ensued as the goal posts were dismantled and carried into the grove as part of the celebration.
One of the most amazing atmospheres I have ever experienced, so proud of our Ole Miss Rebels. This really was a well deserved win!

However, all this made me realise is that I don't ever want there to be a weekend where I am not part of Game Day. Everything about it leaves me in awe and we have nothing of comparison back in England. I'm going to have to move here indefinitely!

Sorry its been a while.
