the one where mum and Ed came to town

The whole of my Monday was spent waiting for message from my mum saying that she had arrived here in Oxford and when it came I was at Hillarys and we jumped straight in the car to go meet them at their hotel on Jackson. Despite them travelling for 24 hours they were so excitable still to be here and we sat in their hotel room for a good few hours catching up.

The next morning they met me on campus after my class and I showed them how beautiful it is here. We went to the library, across the grove and to all the buildings I have classes in, as well as down fraternity row to see all the frat houses. We got lunch in the union, mum had been desperate for a pinkberrys ever since I had told her about them in the first week I arrived here and we sat with Heather, Hillary, Anthony and Jesse our usual routine.

On Wednesday, I found out my afternoon class with Rigby had been cancelled which is the class me and Hillary are in together, so we a.l went to Tupelo for he afternoon. Tupelo is the next town to Oxford, about a 50 minute drive away and it is the birth place of Elvis!

I'm not really that big into Elvis but even so it was really interesting to see the actual house and bed that he was born in. The house was so tiny, just two rooms and he lived there in Tupelo until he was 13 and moved to Memphis.

We also got to see and go inside the church that Elvis used to go to and loved to sing at and experience the kind of service that he would have been part of.

After this, we went to the diner that Elvis used to go to regularly. I've never been to an American diner before, not even the chain restaurants we have in England so this was so cool and the food was really traditionally American and good.

Me and Hillary shared a milkshake, I'm not really sure why, and we both got "tots" and mozzerella sticks that were really good.

We got to sit in the booth that Elvis used to sit at and tried almost all the food they had on the menu. We even signed the guestbook with "hotty toddy" and "God save the queen"

That night I went out with some of the British girls and we managed to get into an over 21 bar called Roosters which was really fun and they were doing a karaoke night. This frat guy that we were with gave a stellar performance..

On Thursday, we went to the lake and the proper country side of America which is what I last wrote about and then to Hillarys house for a tour and to meet the dogs and have an amazing typical Southern meal cooked for us by her pops! We even had sweet potato pie and it was so so good!

On Friday after I'd finished class, me and Hillary went with mum and Ed to check in to their next place of residence on a real life Ranch! This is mine and mums dream to live on a ranch. We pulled in and I was in the car with Hillary and we saw like 6 dogs running towards the car and we  just screamed and held hands, we are too excited by dogs haha.

The ranch has 90 horses I think and 11 dogs! Literally the dream world.

It was such a beautiful Fall afternoon so me and Hillary also did some leaf crunching in our boots!

And of course played with the dogs as much as possible

Later that day we went to get food from Panera on the way to go see our Ole Miss Rebels play basketball. I've not been to a basketball game here yet but it was really cool, and we really did beat the hell outta DSU.

Me and Ed looking happy as Larry reading about our Rebels.

After the basketball game we went with Char to Sonic to get ice cream, the true American dining experience! And the next day was the day we'd been waiting for, GAME DAAAAY

The game kicked off at 11am- the earliest one by far this season so we hit the grove by 9 to show my parents the tents all set up, we met Hillary and her friend and we heard the marching band warming up. My mum is really into music and so when she heard the band for the first time she cried, bless her!

We explored some more of the grove and then went op and found our seats in the stadium

We watched the players warm up, the junior rebel cheerleaders and our band perform before the game kicked off. I think the part before the game starts is my favourite bit, there's always so much going on on the field. We usually get there an hour before kick off to make sure we don't miss it.

The game was an easy win for us with 48-0 but it was a win we needed after losing the previous two games. During it, mum and ed wanted to get closer to where the band was sat in the the stands to hear them better and watch them play so we headed over to the student section and got some pretty good seats for the end of the game.

After the game, I had to nap but then me and the girls had decided to hit the square for a good night out, we haven't been out properly in a while. We even met mum and ed there and they came to one of the bars with us and mum got chatted up but a gay guy. Only in Oxford.

Me and the girls headed for another bar but my parents had to leave so we said a heartfelt yet tipsy goodbye outside the Levee and that will be the last time I see anyone from home until Christmas. Crazy thought, but I'm really glad they came and got to see my little Ole Miss life!! I wish you could all come visit me out here!

The next few weeks are gonna be super busy I think, but I'll keep you posted!

Speak soon!

Em x
