No stress zone

Waking up in the woods was a feeling like no other. There’s no time frame, no schedule, just be there. It was a beautiful day. Bill made us pancakes for breakfast and then us girls went blueberry picking just up the road. It was so cute, Kathy had made buckets from coffee containers to collect them in. We found some really good ones and filled up our buckets.

After a big stop at the store for some essentials we went back and unpacked. Taylor and I made some blueberry muffins and relaxed on the porch with our books while they were baking.

We ate them straight away when they were done and after a while we decided to take the quads out. This was so fun, it felt like we were in an action movie and it was a good opportunity to explore the surrounding area as well as take in the beautiful view of fields, hills and forest every direction you looked.

After our ride, Taylor messaged her neighbour Kylee up here to see if we could hang out at her pool so we went over and sat and had drinks in the inflatables while her kids played in the water. It was so nice to look out at the scenery while cooling down and chilling out. As we left, Kathy mentioned she would be making nachos later and they decided come over to the cabin later on to join us. It was so fun watching the kids play in the woods outside the cabin while Taylor and I chatted to her dad more which felt like some quality time. The nachos were amazing and after a few more drinks we ate some dinner that kathy had made from fresh vegetables that she had grown.

Kylee and the kids stayed over until pretty late. Once they left Taylor wanted to show her parents the scrapbook that I had made with pictures of us in since the first time we met! They loved it and it was so nice to look back at the photos altogether while me and Taylor explained each picture. We had another great nights sleep and I was excited for another day up there.

Day 2 was just as great. This morning Bill made scrambled eggs and toast for breakfast which was delicious. We had a fun girls day planned so Kathy drove us to Hamilton where we explored the farmers market. It was kind of cold so we sort of sped through really and made it to the town. We browsed in a few shops which was nice as I feel like I haven’t been in a local independent shop for ages.

We looked all around the Hamilton bookshop which was really big and then we sat to have coffee outside.

Whilst in the coffee shop, a random guy came up to us asking what he should get to drink. He was talking a lot and we realised he was probably still drunk from the night before. He wanted to know what we were doing out here but Kathy just threw that question straight back in his face! We soon moved on to get some groceries and we bought some corn and peaches from the farmers market.

After we got back home Taylor and I did a crossword puzzle on the deck and sipped homemade nojitos since we were finally able to get some mint today. Later, Bill gave me a quick lesson on the stick shift quad bike but we decided we wanted to ride together so we just took the auto one out but this time I drove. It was pretty exciting and very hilly which scared me a bit while driving but we survived after turning round to get Taylor’s hat which flew off! Next up on the thrill seekers agenda was kayaking in the pond. Bill pushed us in and then rode off to see a neighbour so we paddled around until he got back and we were trying to get the dog Oakley to swim.

It almost worked and she got muddy up her legs so we washed her off. Then we were able to sit out on the deck and drink beer with Bill as we all talked some more. Kathy had made us dinner again which was delicious but I had such a sore eye i think from getting spf in it so they gave me some meds to help. We were on our way out the lodge about to drive to pick up some ice cream when some more neighbours stopped by. They happened to be the couple who owned the blueberry picking field and lots of other properties in the area. They came over to advise Bill on some fish for his pond and we talked to his wife who told us the story of how they got together and also the story of how a local farmers pig escaped and got into her back yard. She called the farmer and left him to come and get it. When he arrived, he found it dead in the back field as it had had a stroke! Who knew pigs couldn’t sweat?

We finally got our blueberry soft serve ice cream which was amazing and when we got back we started a dance party. Kathy even led us in some of her classic exercise routines. Just as we were really getting into Fireball, Kylee the neighbour and her husband Josh turned up to visit! It was so nice to get to know them a bit better. We had a few more beers with them and then they left to go see there kids as it was getting late. We were getting pretty tired by this point but Taylor and I had seen the blindfold dance challenge videos and wanted to try it. Some great songs played and we had to dance without seeing eachother and then when you watch it back you see how similar you move to the music which was pretty fun!

After a bit more hanging out in the living room, we all headed to bed for the final time in the cabin. What an amazing, relaxing trip. I’m so grateful I got to experience it with Taylor’s family. They feel like my own family and I’m so lucky I get to make memories with them. I’m not ready for this trip to end!
